The large volume of literature on the topic of the economics of crime contains few attempts to produce estimates of the cost of individual crimes and little agreement on how to derive such estimates. This interim report focuses on the most relevant issues pertinent to the feasibility of deriving valid and useful estimates for California-based criminal justice cost-benefit analyses.
